U.S. Sports Pharmacy Group Leads New Policy Efforts
At the 2025 American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting in Nashville, TN, hosted from March 21-24, the House of Delegates successfully passed several updates to existing APhA policy related to anti-doping that have been in existence for over 30 years. Efforts to change these policies were spearheaded by USSPG members Athena Cannon (Chair), Mitch Howard (Vice-Chair), and Amanda Ward (Secretary). In addition to the updates on existing policy, a few new policy statements were also passed, emphasizing the importance of the role sports pharmacists play on the athlete’s care team as medication and supplement experts.
For those not familiar with the APhA House of Delegates process and importance, the APhA House of Delegates debates potential policy statements about various topics in pharmacy such as immunizations, prescriptive authority, and much more each year at the Annual Meeting. By having new and updated policy language surrounding sports pharmacy in the APhA Policy Manual, this signifies that sports pharmacy interest is increasing across the US, and the USSPG is proud to have led this effort.
Final drafts of the new policy will be released soon.
